The data source is the records of the Social Insurance Services.Companies need to consider the data to ensure that their salary scales are in line with that of other companies. A recent survey of the Cyprus jobs market has revealed that half of all workers on the island are paid €1,500 or less a month. The two main arguments that normally follow from this is:1. The cost of living went up so employees need higher salaries2. Why are employees paid so little?Indeed, we live in a world where our cost of living has increased dramatically, and yet, considering the research, wages are relatively low. The problem is that businesses cannot keep on compensating employees to make up for the higher cost of living, as this is unsustainable over the long run.At the end, should the real question then not be:Do employers compensate employees fairly based on their experience, skills, qualifications, productivity and actual job function?
